Valentines clothes swap

Not quite as risky as it may sound ;)

I decided to host my first clothes swap party last night which just so happened to be Valentines day eve. So of course I couldn't help but work in a bit of 'theming'.

Happy Valentines day!

High Tea baby shower

You may remember a post from me a while back with an inspiration board for a Vintage high tea baby shower.

My girlfriend was adamant that did she did not want a typical baby shower but rather just a vintage style high tea with close friends. She didn't even want the words Baby shower to appear on the invitation, which I custom designed. My only other brief was "sorbet colours". So I took Vintage high tea, sorbet colours and the theme of apples and created what you see in the photos below. Why the apple? Well my girlfriend didn't find out what whether she was having a boy or a girl but had craved apples her whole pregnancy and was eating them by the dozen so she gave her baby the pet name apple. I thought it would be great to tie it into the theme and the apple green colour worked in well too!

There were a few really special things about this high tea. One of the main reasons I want to share it is to show that simple and authentic on a budget can work :)

REAL vintage, all the platters, crockery, cutlery, and serving ware used in this shower belonged to my friend's grandmother. So not only did it fit perfectly with her theme it was very sentimental too.
PERSONAL touch. Another very personal element was that all the food was made by her mother and grandmother, her husband's mother and grandmother, herself and me. There was a real variety of tastes, some old family recipes and an array of colors to match that of the theme. There were mini apple pies (of course) pink meringues, scones with jam and cream, finger sandwiches, cupcakes, mint slice, lemon slice, mudcake with vanilla icing, honey joys and orange custard blancmange.

We were very lucky to be able to host the event at my friend's mother house in the back garden and the day could not have been more perfect. The sun shone after the weather had threatened showers during the week!
I hung old window frames (picked up from the side of the road) from a tree to form part of the backdrop and had handmade paper ball chains also hanging from trees.

As it was a warm day we had paper fans from the lovely Candy Soirees as favours for the guests to use/take home with thank you notes attached with bakers twine from The Twinery. I put these in a gorgeous grey wire basket from Sweet Little Birdy, which is also where I got the gorgeous glass mini cake stand with dome that housed an apple rather than a cupcake for this event ;) I also included an apple shaped notebook from the fantastic My Little Jedi for all the guest to write their well wishes for our mother to be and baby.

It was a relaxed celebration with close friends and family and a wonderful way to celebrate such a special time in my friend's life.

I was lucky enough to have my gorgeous friend Linda from Shoot4U (who you may remember did a wonderful family shoot for me and was responsible for the beautiful images of my Sugar and Spice Baby shower last year) capture it all in the photos below. Thank you sweetheart!!!!

I am happy to share with you that my girlfriend has since had her "Apple", it was a boy and he has a new name now, Tobias - he is beautiful :)
